Pub Theology is a Fresh Expression of Pierre First United Methodist Church that brings faith and community beyond the walls of the church. Each month, we gather at a different local pub or restaurant, meeting people where community already happens—around tables, over meals, and through honest conversation. The evening is intentionally relaxed. As people arrive, we check in, order food and beverages, and get to know one another. Everyone receives a question card that includes a Scripture passage and a thought-provoking question about faith, life, relationships, or the world around us.

Then the conversation begins—with a little fun mixed in. Responses are shared anonymously, and together we try to guess who around the table wrote each one. Along the way, we learn names, hear different perspectives, laugh together, welcome newcomers, and discover that sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen with people who don't see everything exactly the way we do. This isn't a sermon or a debate, and no one is expected to have the “right” answer.

Some people come with a deeply rooted faith. Some aren't sure what they believe. Others may not consider themselves religious at all. You don't need to know the Bible, belong to our church, or have your beliefs figured out to join the conversation. That's part of what makes Pub Theology a Fresh Expression. Rather than expecting people to enter a church building before they can experience Christian community, we meet people where community already happens. Together, we're creating a bridge between church and community where relationships can grow, questions can be explored honestly, and faith can be encountered in very real terms.

We believe faith can handle difficult questions. We believe we can disagree without dividing. And we believe grace makes room at the table for all of us.
